Reps Consider 2-Month Free Electricity Supply For Nigerians Amid COVID-19 Lock-down

The Nigerian House of Representatives is considering a stimulus bill package that will allow Nigerians enjoy free electricity supply for two months as part of its effort to cushion the effect of coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The Speaker of the green chamber, Femi Gbajabiamila made the proposal on Saturday at a meeting between the National Assembly leadership and the executives, led by the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmad.

Gbajabiamila said the proposed bill, if approved, would help boost the economy through the informal sector as the country prepares for the aftermath of the coronavirus.

The proposed bill is expected to be considered immediately the house returns from its ongoing break which was initially slated for April 7 but will be extended by one week in compliance with the federal government two-week lock-down directive announced b the president, Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday March 29.

As at 10:10 pm 4th April there are 214 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Twenty-five have been discharged with four deaths, according to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control NCDC.
