2016 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede has again won the main opposition party’s ticket in the primary election held Wednesday at the International Culture and Events Center, the dome in Akure, the state capital.

Jegede will now have a repeat contest against the incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu in the October governorship election in the state.

The former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in the state was announced by the Chairman of the party’s Primary Election Committee and Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the winner of the primary election on Thursday, after polling 888 to defeat his closest rival and incumbent Deputy Governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi who got 657 votes and other seven aspirants.

Six other aspirants who contested the election have the following votes polled: Eddy Olafeso, 175 votes; Banji Okunomo, 90 votes; Olabode Ayorinde, 95 votes; Boluwaji Kunlere, 33 votes; Olusola Ebiseeni, 29 and Godday Erewa, 14 votes.

A total of 64 votes were declared as invalid votes.

Agboola who is in a running battle with the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, defected from the APC to the PDP in June with the hope of picking the party’s ticket so he can run against the governor.
