A former Vice President for the World Bank’s Africa Region and former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili has queried President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of live address to the nation.

The President had yesterday, Monday given a live address on the pressing matters of coronavirus in the country where he, among other things, announced the extension of lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states by one week, imposed overnight curfew from 6pm to 8am and a phased and gradual easing of lockdown beginning from 4th of May.

But in a Twitter post on Monday night, Ezekwesili, unimpressed with the way the live broadcast was made, asked when Buhari will ‘give a speech and present himself to be questioned by the media?’.

The convener of the bring back our girls BBOG campaign said it was unacceptable for the President to read speeches to citizens without giving journalists the opportunity to probe the ideas conveyed in the address.

She tweeted: “At what stage will the @NigeriaGov @NGRPresident @MBuhari give a speech and present himself to be questioned by the media?.

“This method of the President reading speeches to citizens without opportunity given to journalists to probe the ideas conveyed is frankly unacceptable.”
