Obi Laments Coordinated Attempts to Frustrate Election Petitio

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has resumed his post-election rhetoric in a message to Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-fitr.

While felicitating with Nigerian Muslims on the successful end of the Ramadan fast, Obi lamented the situation of the country, adding that those involved in what he called ‘state capture’ are working hard to stop him from reclaiming his mandate in court.

He reiterated his allegation that the February 25 election was stolen and the will of Nigerians was subverted.

In the Sallah message posted on his Facebook page on Friday, Obi claimed that his leaked audio and London detention saga were part of coordinated efforts to stop his election petition from seeing the light of day.

The statement read in full:

“As-salamu alaykum to our Muslim brothers and sisters. On the occasion of the celebration of Eid il Fitr, I wish you all a Happy Sallah and congratulate you for completing Ramadan 2023 successfully. Ramadan Kareem!

The Holy Month of Ramadan was for all to practice restraint, decorum and humility; it enjoined all faithfuls to be fair and just in all dealings; to help the needy and heal the ailing; to also promote mutual understanding and peace within communities.

These injunctions promote the values of universal social justice, world peace and human progress.

Our dear country Nigeria, the only nation that we have, is going through uncertainties in different areas relating to insecurity, deprivation, unemployment and most recently, divisive flawed elections arising from the activities of fringe elements who do not respect the rule of law. They always deploy impunity and exploit weak national institutions to subvert the will of the people.

Many untoward activities have been directed at our people and nation, but we remain resolute in fighting for a New Nigeria through all peaceful and legal options under our laws. We continue to implore all Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

We equally remain in prayers that these challenges will be overcome without further adverse shock to the economy, nation and national interest.

In deference to the revered periods of Lent and Ramadan, we have refrained from personally reacting to various distractive allegations and fake news directed at Datti Baba-Ahmed and me.

The most egregious of these acts is the allegation of treason for pursuing the due process. It is now common knowledge that perpetrators of state capture and their acolytes continue to attack Datti and me, and indeed, the Labour Party and the OBIdient Family, for seeking a New Nigeria that will be beneficial to all Nigerians.

Efforts to dissuade us from pursuing the right path towards achieving an equitable, secure and productive New Nigeria, included the deployment of doctored audio, identity theft, impersonation, trolls and fighting words. In the true spirit of Ramadan, I call on our supporters to remain focused on peace and the rule of law. I also wish to assure Nigerians and the OBIdients that our struggle for a New Nigeria is in good stead, and on course.

Indeed, be assured that a new Nigeria, that is safe, secure, fair and prosperous for all Nigerians is POssible!

May Almighty God guide and bless us and bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

  • Jilli Airstrike: Supporters Of Terrorists Will Be Treated As Bandits, Defence Minister Warns Defence Minister Christopher Musa has warned that supporters of terrorists would be treated as criminals. He said this on Monday as he reacted to the airstrike carried out by the Nigerian Air Force airstrike in Jilli, Borno State, over the weekend. Speaking after an expanded security meeting in Kaduna with the state governor and heads of security agencies, Musa said the operation sends a clear message to those collaborating with terrorist groups. He stressed that anyone found supporting insurgents would face the same consequences as the perpetrators. “A friend of a thief is a thief,” he said, warning civilians against associating with or providing any form of assistance to terrorists. Musa urged residents to steer clear of areas known to be used by insurgents, noting that proximity or collaboration could have grave consequences. The airstrike, carried out near the village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area, targeted what the military described as an ISWAP enclave and logistics hub. According to the Nigerian Air Force, the operation was intelligence-driven and aimed at neutralising terror elements and destroying their equipment. However, reports have emerged alleging that the strike may have affected a weekly market in the area, with civilians, including cross-border traders, reportedly among casualties. Musa, however, maintained that the strike should serve as a strong warning to those aiding insurgent activities, reaffirming the military’s resolve to intensify operations against terrorist networks. Air Component of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, conducted a precision air strike on a known terrorist enclave and logistics hub located near the abandoned village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. Giving an update on the airstrike, the Nigerian Army in a post on its official X handle said, “The successful strike, executed on 11 April 2026, followed sustained intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions over the Bindul–Jilli axis, an area long identified as a major terrorist movement corridor and convergence point for Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists and their collaborators.”
