The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration on climate services and data management in Nigeria.

The partnership is expected to improve the collection, sharing and use of climate-related data, enabling both agencies to provide more accurate weather forecasts, climate information and early warning services for government institutions, businesses and the public.

Officials said the agreement will also support national efforts to tackle climate change by enhancing research, policy development and disaster risk management. The collaboration is expected to improve coordination between relevant stakeholders while promoting evidence-based decision-making on climate issues.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to build Nigeria’s resilience to climate change and ensure reliable climate information is readily available for sustainable development planning.
