Several Nigerian women rescued from a suspected sex trafficking network in Côte d’Ivoire have shared chilling accounts of the abuse and exploitation they endured before regaining their freedom.

The survivors alleged they were lured abroad with promises of well-paying jobs and better opportunities, only to discover they had been forced into sexual exploitation upon arrival. Many said they were subjected to intimidation, threats and harsh living conditions while being denied the freedom to leave.

According to the victims, they were compelled to repay large sums of money allegedly owed to their traffickers, leaving them trapped in a cycle of exploitation. Some also described being physically and psychologically abused throughout their ordeal.

Following coordinated rescue efforts involving relevant authorities, the victims have been brought to safety and are receiving support as investigations continue to identify those responsible and dismantle the trafficking network. Authorities have also urged Nigerians to be cautious of suspicious overseas job offers and migration schemes
