By Kabiir Abdulsalam,

Nigeria has taken a significant leap forward in internet access, with a reported 55% of its population now using the internet, according to data from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This figure, according the report puts Nigeria well ahead of many other African countries, highlighting a growing trend of digital adoption on the continent.

The data reveals a clear digital divide, with North Korea and Somalia at the bottom of the list with internet penetration rates below 10%.

However, Nigeria stands out among its African peers, surpassing countries like Ethiopia (17%), Kenya (29%), and South Africa (72%).

This rapid growth in internet usage suggests a growing appetite for information, communication, and online services among Nigerians.

With a large and youthful population, Nigeria’s digital landscape is poised for further development in the coming years.

The report indicates that Internet users are individuals who have used the Internet (from any location) in the last 3 months via a computer, mobile phone, personal digital assistant, games machine, digital TV etc.
