President Muhammadu Buhari has given permission for the airlifting of Nigeria’s allocation of the Madagascar herbal drug remedy for coronavirus.

The COVID-19 herbal solutions, named COVID-Organics, according to the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research which developed the beverage, is produced from artemisia, a plant with proven efficacy against malaria, and other indigenous herbs.

Meridian Spy reported earlier that 55 COVID-19 patients in Madagascar who were treated with the herbal drug recovered from the virus disease.

It was reported that the Indian Ocean island country have been giving away thousands of bottles of the product free of charge to countries across Africa, including Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau.

However, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, on Monday revealed that the government was making arrangements to freight Nigeria’s allocation from Guinea Bissau, on the orders of the president, but that the herbal drug will be subjected to the standard validation process for pharmaceuticals.

Mustapha stated: “The president of Madagascar sent it to Guinea Bissau. Certain allocations have been made to different countries. We have an indication of the quantities that have been allocated to Nigeria, and we are supposed to make arrangements to freight it out of Bissau to Nigeria.

“I’ve received instructions from Mr President to make arrangements to freight it home, with a clear instruction that I should subject it to the validation process similar to what will happen to any other medicine or syrup or vaccine that is discovered or created internally. So it will be subjected to the same process before it is put into any form of use. There’ll be no exception for that.

“Madagascar has made allocations to various countries, and sent them to Guinea Bissau. We‘re supposed to make arrangements to freight Nigeria’s allocation from Guinea Bissau; it‘ll be subjected to the standard validation process for pharmaceuticals.”

The SGF, who also doubles as Chairman of the PTF team, further stressed: “Nigeria has only one National Response to the #Covid19 pandemic. Where there are differing Strategies is in the implementation of non-pharmaceutical interventions. But as far as the (Health) Response is concerned, there is only one National Response. #PTFCOVID19.”
