Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LTH), Ogbomoso, have threatened to resume their suspended industrial action on August 28, 2026, if the Oyo State Government and hospital management fail to address their outstanding welfare demands.
The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) had suspended its previous strike on June 27 and gave the authorities an eight-week period to resolve the issues. However, the association says several key demands remain unresolved.
Among the demands are the full implementation and release of the Medical Residency Training Fund, implementation of the new Professional Allowance table, payment of minimum wage arrears, and urgent recruitment of additional resident doctors and other critical medical staff.
The doctors also raised concerns about severe manpower shortages, saying the limited number of doctors are being overworked by prolonged and frequent call duties. They warned that the situation could affect patient safety and the quality and sustainability of healthcare services.
The association said it prefers dialogue and does not want to disrupt healthcare services, but warned that it would resume the strike if the outstanding issues are not resolved before the August 28 deadline.
