Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State governor, has again berated Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigeria president, over comment on death of Buruji Kashamu, former Ogun East senator, who died of complications from coronavirus.

Recall Obasanjo, in a letter of condolence address to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, noted that late Kashamu had used law and politics to escape death but could not evade death.

But condemning the former president’s statement, Fayose described it as regrettable.

“Nigerians will watch out for Obasanjo’s own end. He should stop forming saint because he is not.  He should also remember that his own end will come too and nobody knows how the end will be,” he said.

MERIDIAN SPY reported earlier today, the former president again remarked he grew up in a place where anyone known with bad character dies, was mourned and buried without eulogy or praise-singing.

“When I was growing up, in our community, when anyone known with bad character died, we usually only mourn him and bury him. No eulogy. No praise-singing,” said Obasanjo.

“But we must learn from such a passage. There will be bad lessons. There will be good lessons. But we should not just be praise-singing or eulogising the dead, especially when there is no need to do so.”

He added that he does not care about what people would say about him when he dies, stating that even while he is still alive, people still abuse him.

“Let people say whatever they like when I transit. Now that I am alive, am I not being abused? Whenever I transit, let people say whatever they know or think about me. Let them say it as it is. What my maker thinks of me is what matters most,” the former President said.

However, speaking on “Plus Politics”, a programme on Plus TV Africa, monitored by The Nation on Tuesday, the former governor said Obasanjo ought to be prosecuted for the derisive insults towards the late Kashamu.

“Let me tell to you, Obasanjo has made hate speech and should be brought to book by this government. I pray one day I will become president of this country by God’s grace. Obasanjo will go back to prison. I’m telling you the truth because there are so many things Obasanjo must be questioned about,” said Fayose.

“Obasanjo is not a saint when he came out of prison his farm at Ota was in shambles. But, today, it is back to life. Where did the money for resuscitating the once ailing farm come from? It was from the government.

“For the library, all governors at that time contributed 10 million naira each to support Obasanjo by force. The third term is still fresh in our memory. So, baba should stop telling us he is a saint. Shagari was not good enough. He imposed him on Nigerians. He brought Yar’ dua and Jonathan. Nobody is good to Obasanjo except himself.

“Whatever you say about Kashamu. He has paid his own dues, spent his time. No court convicted him and he left and departed the world. Everybody will have an end. Let wait and see how Obasanjo will end.”
