Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has revealed how a 10-year-old boy absconded from the state reportedly to the northern part of the country, after testing positive for coronavirus disease.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Makinde had noted that ‘of the 33 active cases being managed by the state, two absconded, possibly to their permanent places of residence’.

But late night Wednesday, the governor, having confirmed the discharge of two COVID-19 patients from the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC), Olodo after receiving their second negative test results, revealed that one of the fleeing patients had been found and admitted to the IDC, Olodo while eye witnesses claimed the other, the 10-year-old boy, boarded a north-bound vehicle.

He said the details of the boy has been sent to the Sokoto State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, PHEOC while contact tracing is still ongoing.

Makinde tweeted: “Two confirmed COVID-19 patients were discharged from the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC), Olodo after receiving their second negative test results. This brings the number of discharged cases in Oyo State to thirteen.

“We also have a further update on the two absconded cases reported earlier today. They absconded before being admitted to any of our isolation centres. After intensive contact tracing, one of them has been found and admitted to the IDC, Olodo.

“The other is a 10-year-old boy who eye witnesses claim boarded a north-bound vehicle. His details have been sent to the Sokoto State PHEOC. Contact tracing is still ongoing.
