The pain of losing a teenage daughter, Barakat Bello, a student of Federal College of Animal Health and Production in Ibadan, Oyo State, who was raped and killed by yet to be identified persons in her house, still endures deeply in the heart of her depressed father, Kasimu Bello Elepo.

Elepo told Sahara Reporters her gruesome murder still feels like a terrible dream to them.

“My heart is still bleeding because I cannot believe that my daughter is gone just like that,” he said. “It had been difficult for me to sleep as the entire incident still appears very unreal to me”.

He added that it had not been easy for the family to accept the reality of Barakat’s rape and gruesome murder.

The Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Gbenga Fadeyi, has however assured that investigation was ongoing and would issue a statement upon completion of investigation.

MERIDIAN SPY reports Friday, a group of protesters, under the aegis of Women’s Voices Leadership Project sponsored by Actionaid and Global Affairs, Canada, stormed the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja to protest the spate of deaths resulting from rising cases of sexual assault in the country.

The protesters marched to the Police Headquarters on Friday, demanding justice for the rape and killing of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, Miss Bello Barakat and other victims in the country, while calling on the Force to devise effective strategies to stem the growing menace of gender-based violence in the country.

They also called on state governments of the federation to not only domesticate the Violence Against People Prohibition Act and the Child Rights Act, but to ensure strict enforcement so as to bring to a halt the issue of rape and incest.

After a long walk with placards, the group formally presented their demands to a representative of the Inspector-General of Police.
