The Federal Government has decided to reduce the salaries of airport workers across the country effective from May, 2020.

This was contained in a circular released on Tuesday May 19 by the Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.

According to the circular signed by FAAN General Manager, Administration, M.D. Musa, the reduction in salaries was due to the decline in airport revenues occasioned by the shutting down of operations to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“This is to notify all staff that due to the dwindling revenue generation amidst COVID-19 pandemic, management may not be able to pay full salary to staff as from May 2020,” the circular read.

“However, as soon as revenue improves, the balance will be paid. This measure is to ensure the survival of the organisation.”

FAAN yesterday, Tuesday commenced fumigation of International Airports in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt ahead of reopening of flight operations in Nigeria.

In a statement by General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, the fumigation exercise was in line with the efforts to contain the spread of the pandemic ravaging the world.

Yakubu said though, it was not yet clear when the ban on flights would be lifted, the authority was taking the proactive steps.

“This is to ensure the safety of passengers and other airport users when the airports eventually reopen,” she said.

“In March this year, the authority embarked on a similar exercise of disinfection and fumigation of all the international airports.
