The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate linked to multiple violent crimes in Abuja and neighbouring areas.
The breakthrough followed a series of coordinated operations conducted between September 3 and 19, 2025, during which operatives arrested four suspects in Kagini, FCT, and Madalla, Niger State.
The suspects include 28-year-old Ibrahim Shaibu, also known as Baba Godes, from Zaria, Kaduna State; 40-year-old Yusuf Salihu from Kagini, FCT; 25-year-old Awulu Nuhu, alias Zabi, from Katsina State; and 28-year-old Usman Yerima, known as Dangrugru, from Adamawa State.
Recovered from the suspects were two English pistols, 49 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, a gray Toyota Corolla (2012 model), and 10 android phones suspected to have been stolen from victims.
Police said the suspects confessed to being behind several violent attacks, including the armed robbery of Umar Y. Gowa at Hillside Estate, Dawaki, and the raid on Volcano Peak Court Hotel, Gwarinpa, where guests were robbed and a popular disc jockey, Bashir Dauda (DJ Bash), was fatally shot.
Investigations also revealed that the gang had been responsible for a string of robberies in Gwarinpa and Dawaki, with CCTV footage capturing one of their attacks on a resident.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao S. Adewale, commended the Scorpion Squad and other operatives for their professionalism and resilience in tracking the syndicate. He assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
He further urged the public to remain vigilant and support the police with credible information, while providing emergency numbers for distress calls: 08032003913 and 08061581938
