Ex-Boko Haram members Attacks on police Station, checkpoints in Borno

Ex-Boko Haram members Attacks on police Station, checkpoints in Borno

Some repentant Boko Haram insurgents have attacked a police station in Maiduguri the Borno State capital in an attempt to free their arrested colleagues.

Suspected repentant Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly set ablaze the checkpoints of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Maiduguri the Borno State capital in an attempt to free their arrested colleagues.

PRNigeria gathered that some of the repentant terrorists were arrested by operatives of the state police command for allegedly indulging in nefarious activities.

The terrorists was seen dressed in military uniforms invaded the Kasuwan Fara in Maiduguri and chased away the personnel of the agencies.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Borno State, Kenneth Daso, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, said the assailants, who invaded the police station, were repelled by officers on duty.

According to him, the an operation conducted by the police on 24 April where at least eight persons were arrested for drug peddling and other offences.

He said, “Following an intelligence report that some drug peddlers, smokers, repentant and Boko Haram insurgents are indulging in nefarious activities, eight persons were arrested including seven male and a female in that operation with 476grams of illicit substances.

“As you know, such activities have been banned in the area by the state government since last year.

“Few hours after the arrest, some unscrupulous persons, so-called repentant Boko Haram, dressed up in military attire tried to invade our police station at Ibrahim Taiwo but were repelled immediately.

“Thereafter, they went and attacked Nigeria Immigration Service and NDLEA check points after the welcome to the township gate and they burnt it down,” he said.

A police spokesperson stated that an investigation into the incident is currently underway, while the eight arrested suspects have been transferred to the divisional headquarters of the anti-crack squad for further action.
