Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, has directed Mohammed Adamu, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to provide security for the 14 lawmakers of the Edo State House of Assembly who were Thursday sworn-in at a private location in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

This was made known in a letter dated August 5 written by Malami and addressed to Adamu.

MERIDIAN SPY learnt the directive by the AGF to the IGP was based on a petition to Malami’s office by Idahosa-West Chambers, the legal counsel to the newly sworn-in lawmakers.

The 14 Edo lawmakers were said to have declared support for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, while the incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki is reportedly left with only seven lawmakers of the assembly.
