The Military High Command, today, said it has received the delivery of 20 new, improved armored personnel carriers (APCs) to boost troop operations across Nigeria.

A statement signed by Brigadier General, Tukur Gusau, Director Defence Information in Abuja, said the delivery was presented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, representing the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, handed over the vehicles and their keys to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, during a brief ceremony.

These APCs are a significant upgrade, featuring advanced weaponry and communication systems that allow for more effective target detection and engagement at a distance. They are also designed to facilitate seamless military operations.

The Permanent Secretary expressed his satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between the military branches. He commended the decision to contract a domestic manufacturer for the APCs, highlighting the potential benefits of this approach. These include cost savings for the nation, job creation for Nigerians, and a reduced reliance on foreign currency.

In response, the CDS thanked the Minister of Defence for this valuable addition to the military’s arsenal. He pledged to utilize the APCs strategically and effectively, expressing confidence that they will significantly enhance ongoing operations aimed at restoring security across Nigeria.

The APCs were produced by a Nigerian company, whose chairman, Engineer Kola Balogun, was present at the ceremony. The company has committed to providing operator training and after-sales support, including maintenance, spare parts, and repairs. Engineer Balogun also revealed plans for future exports of these APCs, aiming to generate foreign income for the country.
