Court Acquits Fayose, Dismisses EFCC’s N2.2bn Fraud Charges

A Federal High Court in Lagos has discharged and acquitted former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, of all charges in the protracted N2.2 billion money laundering case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a judgment delivered on Tuesday, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke upheld Fayose’s no-case submission.

He ruled that the EFCC failed to establish a prima facie case that would warrant the defendant to open his defence.

Fayose had been on trial for several years over allegations of money laundering and financial misappropriation during his tenure as governor of Ekiti State.

“The prosecution failed to link the defendant to the alleged offences in a manner that warrants the court to compel him to enter a defence,” the court held.
