A cancer specialist has urged Nigerians to seek immediate medical attention if they notice persistent lumps, unexplained bone pain or other unusual symptoms, warning that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.
The expert explained that while not every lump or ache is cancerous, persistent symptoms should never be ignored, as they could indicate an underlying health condition, including cancer. Early diagnosis, the specialist noted, increases the chances of successful treatment and survival.
The medical professional also advised members of the public to pay attention to warning signs such as unexplained weight loss, prolonged fatigue, abnormal bleeding, persistent swelling and changes in bowel or bladder habits. Regular medical check-ups and prompt hospital visits were recommended for anyone experiencing unusual symptoms.
The call comes amid efforts by health professionals to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection and the importance of timely medical intervention to reduce cancer-related deaths in Nigeria.
