The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately cancel the Shanono/Bagwai State Constituency bye-election and the Ghari Constituency rerun election in Kano State, citing widespread violence and disruptions at polling units.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party alleged that armed thugs unleashed violence across Shanono, Bagwai, and Ghari constituencies, forcing voters to flee polling stations. It added that security personnel deployed for the exercise were overwhelmed, making the possibility of a credible election unattainable.
The APC warned that allowing the exercise to continue under such circumstances would not only undermine democratic principles of free, fair, and peaceful elections but also set what it described as a “dangerous precedent for unacceptable electoral heist.”
The party urged INEC to take immediate action to prevent what it called a mockery of democracy in Kano State.
