Eight members of the House of Representatives from Kano State on Tuesday announced their defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Their defection was formally announced during plenary, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.
In separate letters read on the floor of the House, the lawmakers cited the internal crisis within the NNPP as the reason for their decision to defect.
The names of the lawmakers are as follows: Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe (Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa Federal Constituency); Hon. Garba Ibrahim Diso (Gwale Federal Constituency); Hon. Hassan Shehu Hussain (Nassarawa Federal Constituency); Hon. Idris Dankawu (Kumbotso Federal Constituency); Hon. Muhamamad Chiroma Nalaraba (Gezawa/Gabasawa Federal Constituency);
Others are Hon. Barr. Rabiu Yusuf (Takai/Sumaila Federal Constituency); Hon. Dr Ghali Mustapha Tijjani (Albasu/Gaya/Ajingi Federal Constituency); Hon. Barr. Muhammad Bello Shehu (Fagge Federal Constituency).
The development was witnessed by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf; the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; and a former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, among others.
