Titus Uba, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and son have tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus disease.
Lubiem Tiav, the chief press secretary to the speaker confirmed this in a statement on Sunday.
Tiav said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had taken samples of Uba, his family members and four other assembly members but only the result of the speaker and his last son returned positive for the virus disease.
According to him, Uba called on all who might have come in contact with him within the last week to submit themselves to be tested of the virus, adding that modalities had been put in place to ensure all assembly members and staff got tested to establish their status.
Meanwhile, a total of 66 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed by NCDC in the state, out of the 565 new cases recorded in the country.
So far, 36,663 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the country, with 15,105 discharged and 789 fatalities.
