The All Progressive Conngress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have berated each other over alleged corruption in the President, Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
The PDP had, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, blamed the poverty and insecurity suffered by Nigerians “in the last five years” on the alleged unbridled looting and extortion by a cabal around President Buhari and the APC.
“The grandstanding by the Buhari Presidency in response to revelations of abuses and sleazes emanating from the investigation of the suspended acting Chairman of the APC-controlled EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, exposes a desperate attempt by a cabal to delink certain of its officials from indictment in the saga”, the party also alleged.
The main opposition party raised several allegations of corrupt practices ongoing in the current administration which it claims the APC-led government failed to expose.
“…the APC administration has failed to expose those involved in the wholesale stealing of N9.6 trillion ($25 billion) oil money as detailed in the leaked NNPC group memo just as no steps have been taken by the APC government to investigate and recover the money,” it said.
“…the APC administration had also failed to expose those behind the reported stealing of N1.1 trillion worth of crude oil, using 18 unregistered vessels linked to some of its leaders.
“This is in addition to the mindless looting in revenue related agencies including the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) among other agencies, which have been turned into ATM machines for APC leaders while Nigerians suffer neglect.
The PDP further stated that “the latest revelation of massive looting in NDDC, as detailed by its former Managing Director, Joy Nunieh, as well as the silence of the Buhari Presidency on the issues raised, grant further insight into how resources meant for the development of our nation are being pillaged under the APC”.
Describing the APC-led administration as the worst and the most corrupt in the history of Nigeria “for which Nigerians, across the board, are most eager to commit … to the dustbin of antiquity at the appropriate time”, it urge Nigerians not to despair but “keep faith alive and continue to support one another in this perilous time”
But reacting, the ruling party stated that the PDP does not have what it takes to lament about it’s alleged corruption practices in the present administration of APC.
In a statement by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena on Monday, the APC noted that it is on records that the opposition party “is the founder of corruption in Nigeria, to the extent that the evil practices were made official way of life during its 16 wasteful years”.
“Nigerians should ignore the fake lamentations of an unrepentant corrupt PDP,” it added.
“The main opposition party is only pained that it’s no longer in government, PDP does not have history of caring for the people even when the revenue generations were at the highest levels.”
The ruling party further assured that the administration of President Buhari will not condole any form of corrupt practices even as the administration is committed to fighting corruption as promised.
It further added,”In APC’s government nobody is above the law. For the fact that the suspended acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu is being investigated should send a signal to all those who think and have blackmailed the government’s anti-corruption battle.
“The Presidency has assured that there is no hiding place for any corrupt government official in this administration being led by an incorruptible personality, in person of Buhari.”
