Lagos Rail Project: Reno Slams El-Rufai Over Yorubanisation Claims
Reno Omokri, a prominent political commentator, has lambasted the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, over his recent claims of “Yorubanisation” of the government under President Bola Tinubu.
In a scathing article published on X yesterday, Omokri accused el-Rufai of hypocrisy, pointing out that the ex-governor had remained silent when the Federal Government spent $2 billion on a railway project in Niger Republic during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
“Why is el-Rufai suddenly concerned about the Federal Government’s investment in a rail project in Lagos State, but had no issues with the same government spending $2 billion on a project in Niger Republic?” Omokri asked.
Omokri argued that Lagos, with 8% of Nigeria’s population, contributes 35% of the country’s GDP, making it reasonable for the Federal Government to invest in infrastructure projects like the Lagos rail project.
The article also highlighted el-Rufai’s own record of using government funds to pay herdsmen, which Omokri believes undermines his credibility on the issue.
“El-Rufai’s accusations of Yorubanisation are nothing but a desperate attempt to distract Nigerians from his own failures and hypocrisy,” Omokri said.
Omokri warned that el-Rufai’s actions could have far-reaching consequences, including destabilizing the country and damaging the bond between the North and the Southwest.
The article has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Nigerians calling out el-Rufai for his perceived hypocrisy and others defending his right to express his opinions.
