In the service of their nation, military personnel make extraordinary sacrifices, often paying the ultimate price to safeguard the lives of citizens and protect the country’s territory. Their bravery and dedication in the face of battle are the foundation upon which national security is built.
The loss of a naval rating in the line of duty is a profound tragedy, affecting not only their immediate family but also the Nigerian Navy and the Armed Forces. One such example is the sacrifice made by Leading Regulator Suleiman MK, a distinguished personnel of the Nigerian Navy who lost his life in service to the nation during Operation WHIRL STROKE in Niger State on August 13, 2023.
It is against this backdrop that the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, has been working to ensure a highly motivated and professional naval force capable of shaping security outcomes within Nigeria’s maritime domain and littorals, including land-based engagements, in fulfillment of Nigeria’s national interest.
One significant aspect of this vision is the assurance of shelter for naval personnel, both during and after their service.
In a gesture that underscores the importance attached to personnel welfare, the Chief of the Naval Staff presented a 2-bedroom semi-detached bungalow to the widow of Leading Seaman Abdulraham FA at the Navy Estate in Karshi, Abuja. This move provides succor to the slain hero’s family and offers them comfort in the wake of their loss.
The CNS was represented at the ceremony by the Director of Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral Mohammed Yakubu Dahiru, who stated that such initiatives will be sustained to ensure that no one is left behind.
This compassionate act by the Chief of the Naval Staff sends a strong message that the Nigerian Navy values the sacrifice of its personnel and is committed to supporting the families of those who have paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
