US President, Donald Trump says Palm Sunday is a day to lift voices in prayer as the country struggles to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
The US president noted this via his verified twitter handle on Sunday.
He wrote:”Palm Sunday is the beginning of a Holy week for many people of Faith and a great day to lift our voices in Prayer. I will be tuning into Pastor @greglaurie at @harvestorg Church in Riverside, California tomorrow at 11:00 A.M. Eastern.”
Trump had previously warned that the United States is entering what could be its “toughest” week yet as the number of coronavirus cases in the country exceeded 300,000 while the death toll passed 8,100.
Meanwhile Pope Francis, who delivered the Palm Sunday mass by live stream in an empty St. Peter’s Square on Sunday called on the world to take courage as the disease has claimed more than 65,000 lives across the globe in just three months.
The pontiff stated: “Today, in the tragedy of a pandemic, in the face of the many false securities that have now crumbled, in the face of so many hopes betrayed, in the sense of abandonment that weighs upon our hearts, Jesus says to each one of us: ‘Courage, open your heart to my love.”
Globally, the death toll surpassed 65,700, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, and the number of infections rose above 1.2 million.
