Tenoch Huerta has denied claims of sexual assault by María Elena Ríos, his former partner.
Ríos had accused the ‘Black Panther 2’ actor of assaulting her and being a “sexual predator”.
In a statement on Monday, Huerta refuted the allegations and clarified that their relationship was consensual.
Huerta said Rios began misrepresenting their interactions after they broke up.
He added that he sought legal counsel months ago to protect his reputation.
“A false and completely unsubstantiated accusation about me has spread like wildfire. And I cannot let it go unchallenged any longer,” the statement read.
“About a year ago, I dated Elena for several months. It was entirely consensual at all times, as countless others can attest.
“And throughout it was a loving, warm, and mutually supportive relationship.
“After it ended, however, Elena began to misrepresent our interactions both privately and in front of groups of mutual friends.
“As a result, a few months ago, I engaged a legal team to commence the appropriate actions to protect my reputation and refute these irresponsible and false accusations that can cause great prejudice and damage.”
Huerta thanked those who supported him and called on others to examine the facts before rushing to conclusions.
“Although I am by no means perfect, I know that these allegations are simply untrue,” the actor added.
“And while I will always work to improve myself, I need to contest claims that are both false and offensive.”
Tenoch Huerta gained recognition with his debut film ‘Sin Nombre’.
His breakthrough role in ‘Black Panther 2‘ earned him a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Huerta portrayed the character Namor in the sequel which was released in 2022.
Throughout his career, Huerta has received numerous accolades and nominations for his talent.
