The All Progressives Congress (APC) has categorically debunked reports suggesting a possible replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the claims as speculative, untrue and entirely baseless.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, said the party was alarmed by a growing media frenzy built around unfounded narratives of internal realignments, which recently escalated to the point where specific individuals were being touted as potential replacements for the Vice President.
Morka stressed that such reports have no foundation in fact or party reality, urging media organisations to exercise restraint and professionalism by refusing to amplify rumours and “mischievous news sources” bent on sowing discord and confusion in the polity.
“The stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” the APC spokesman stated, noting that the party remains united and focused on governance rather than premature and unlawful political permutations.
He reminded political actors and commentators that, under Nigeria’s electoral laws and regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force, making the ongoing speculations not only reckless but also misplaced.
According to the party, its overriding priority at this time is to continue supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in the effective delivery of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which it said is already yielding bold reforms aimed at economic transformation, prosperity building, and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
The APC further cautioned ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against actions or utterances that could, directly or indirectly, fuel unnecessary speculation, urging them instead to concentrate on diligent service and strengthening the successes of the Tinubu-led administration.
The party reaffirmed its confidence in the Tinubu–Shettima leadership, describing President Tinubu as an “inimitable and visionary leader” whose achievements should remain the central focus of public discourse.
