Shettima to Attend  80th UNGA in New York

Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent Nigeria at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States, following the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The global summit, which marks the 80th anniversary of the UN, will run from Monday, September 22, to Sunday, September 28, 2025, with world leaders expected to gather for high-level debates and commemorative events.

According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Senator Shettima will join other leaders at the official anniversary event on Monday, September 22, at the UN headquarters.

The Vice President is also scheduled to participate in the high-level general debates from September 23 to 28. He will deliver Nigeria’s national statement on behalf of President Tinubu on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (New York time).

In addition, Shettima will attend a special climate event for Heads of State and Government hosted by the UN Secretary-General, where Nigeria is expected to unveil its new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. The session is slated for Wednesday, September 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

On the same day, the Vice President is billed to participate in a high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya, alongside other bilateral engagements.
