Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist and supporter of the #EndSARS movement, has reminded the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) that their allegiance ought not to be to President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but to the Nigerian people and the 1999 constitution.
Yesufu gave the reminder when she featured as a guest on Arise TV, on Tuesday.
The human rights activist comment was in reaction to the heavy security presence in strategic locations across the country on Monday, following reports of youths gathering for a second round of ENDSARS protests.
She said the government and police have no right to place a ban on demonstrations, adding that they only need to be informed of the protests, so they can protect the activists.
“I would say, the Nigerian police should understand that their allegiance is to Nigeria and the Nigerian people and the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria and not to the president and the ruling party, and the right to protest is guaranteed under the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria,” Yesufu said.
The activist further said Nigerians were yet to see the end of the ENDSARS protest, adding that the present generation of Nigerians are tired of being hounded to death.
“We’ve not seen the end of #EndSARS protests,” she said.
“Protests come in different forms and I tell you, this generation is sick and tired of being hounded to death.”
