Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued six kidnap victims during a routine patrol in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The victims, comprising four women and two children, were found wandering in the bush after escaping from their abductors.

The rescue was carried out on Monday by troops of 17 Brigade deployed at Unguwan Doka while conducting a routine foot patrol in the area.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Captain Abayomi Adisa, the troops intercepted the victims shortly after they escaped from captivity.

The rescued victims were identified as Umaima Isiaku, 30; Amina Isiaku, 16; Safiya Isiaku, 15; Ramatu Suleiman, 30; Muhammad Shehu, 4; and Ibrahim Suleiman, 2.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted by armed bandits from Unguwan Lado in Kankara Local Government Area on June 22.

The Army said the troops immediately administered first aid, provided food and other immediate necessities before reuniting the victims with their families.

Commander of 17 Brigade, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements operating within its area of responsibility.

He assured residents that the Nigerian Army would continue to intensify operations aimed at protecting lives and property while denying bandits freedom of action across Katsina State.
