Troops of the 8 Division Garrison, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded another major breakthrough in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North-West after successfully ambushing a group of terrorists in transit to launch attacks in parts of Sokoto State.

Security sources told PRNigeria that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the movement of armed terrorists along the Kwanar Jollof axis of Jangeru Village in Shinkafi Local Government Area.

Acting on the intelligence, the troops strategically positioned themselves along the suspected route and laid an ambush for the terrorists.

Upon sighting the advancing terrorists, the troops immediately engaged them with overwhelming firepower, triggering a fierce exchange that forced the criminals to abandon their mission and flee into nearby forests.

Military sources disclosed that the superior firepower and tactical positioning of the troops left the terrorists with no option but to retreat in disarray, abandoning several items at the scene.

Items recovered during the operation included a PKT machine gun, a cache of ammunition, multiple motorcycles, chains believed to have been used for restraining kidnapped victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms suspected to have been intended for disguise or deception during future operations.

The recovery of military uniforms has heightened concerns over the tactics employed by terrorist groups, who often impersonate security personnel to evade detection and gain access to targeted communities.

Meanwhile, PRNigeria gathered that some of the fleeing terrorists were later intercepted and neutralised by hybrid security forces positioned along an identified exit route.

Sources said the terrorists ran into another ambush while attempting to escape the area, resulting in additional casualties among the criminal elements.

The latest success is part of sustained offensive operations being conducted by Operation FANSAN YAMMA across Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and other states in the North-West to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt planned attacks and restore peace to affected communities.

Security analysts say the operation highlights the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven military actions and the increasing collaboration between conventional troops and hybrid forces in denying terrorists freedom of movement across the region.

The operation comes amid intensified military offensives targeting terrorist hideouts, logistics networks and transit corridors used by armed groups responsible for kidnappings, cattle rustling and attacks on rural communities across the North-West
