The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved contracts worth over N7.5 billion for vehicles, road rehabilitation and infrastructure projects across the state.

Among the approvals is N1.46 billion for the purchase of official vehicles for the governor’s office, including three bulletproof Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, two 2025 Toyota Prado SUVs and a Coaster bus.

The approvals were announced on Wednesday after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Sokoto.

The state Commissioner for Transport, Bala Kokani, said the council also approved N438 million for the direct purchase of six buses for the Sokoto State Transport Authority.

He said, “The decision was based on the agency’s N500 million internally generated revenue.”

The state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, disclosed that the council approved N2.2 billion for the rehabilitation of 36 roads across the state.

He added that another N894.68 million was approved as additional funding for ongoing construction works at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport Protocol Lodge.

The council also approved N1.08 billion for the renovation of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Wamako, which officials said was built over 12 years ago during the administration of former governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako.

Other approvals include N398.63 million for fencing the Livestock Services Centre in Wamako and N733.27 million for the renovation of the International Conference Centre in Kasarawa.

To boost environmental sanitation, the council approved N340.5 million for the procurement of two pay loaders for waste evacuation.

The state government also approved N67.99 million for the printing of the 2026 government calendar and diaries, while separate official diaries for the governor’s office will cost N71.22 million.

According to the commissioners, another memo relating to funding from the Federation Account Allocation Committee and the Federal Ministry of Finance would be forwarded to the Sokoto State House of Assembly to enable the state access additional infrastructure funds.

They said the approvals reflected the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, transportation, security and public service delivery across the state.
