Six members of the House of Representatives out of nine from Ondo State have lost the primary election held across 203 wards in nine federal constituencies of the state during the House of Representatives primaries held on Sunday.
The lawmakers are Mr Timilehin Adelegbe, representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency; Mr Donald Ojogo (Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency); Mr Derin Adesida (Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency); Mr Festus Adefiranye (Odigbo/Ile Oluji/Okeigbo Federal Constituency); Mr Jimi Odimayo (Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency); and Mr Festus Akingbaso (Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency).
The Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, Mr Iboroma Dabibi, in a statement issued on Monday, described the primary as peaceful, transparent and reflective of the democratic principles of the party.
He urged all aspirants and their supporters to embrace unity and work collectively for the progress of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Elections may generate varying interests, but we must never allow internal bitterness, division or rancour to weaken our progress.
“After this primary election, we must all unite as one strong, indivisible family, fully focused on the bigger task ahead: the 2027 general elections to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ondo State and all our National Assembly candidates at the polls,” the chairman said.
Meanwhile, leaders and chieftains of the APC in Owo and Ose local government areas, who congratulated Kayode Ijalana, expressed optimism over his candidacy and the prospects of strengthening the party’s political dominance within the federal constituency.
In a statement, one of the leaders, Chief Rufus Omosola, described the outcome of the primary as a significant development in the evolving political landscape of the constituency, noting that “the coming months will be crucial as the party begins strategic mobilisation towards the 2027 elections.”
“On behalf of the leader of the APC in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, I want to appeal to our supporters to continue to work vigorously for the victory of our candidate and for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the general election next year,” he said.
