The Imo State Police Command has commenced orderly room trials for seven personnel involved in misconduct, including extortion, unprofessionalism, and high-handedness, captured in a viral video last Saturday.

The command assured the public that the disciplinary process would be thorough, transparent, and in accordance with the Nigeria Police Force regulations.

A traveller had discreetly recorded operatives from a joint task force, comprising members from different security agencies, harassing and extorting passengers at Seven-and-a-Half Junction in Obowo Local Government Area on Saturday.

Police spokesperson in the state, Henry Okoye, in a statement on Thursday, said the trial had commenced against the following seven operatives: Inspector Eyo Udo – Anti-Vice Unit, Inspector Peter Nweke – Rapid Response Squad, Inspector Ita Asuquo – Search and Flush, Sergeant Chukwuka Ekwueme – Anti-Vice Unit, Police Constable Onuwa Samuel – Anti-Vice Unit, Police Constable Patchris David – Anti-Vice Unit, and Police Constable Amos Sunny – Anti-Vice Unit.

He said, “The trial follows the identification of the personnel by the complainants, leading to their arrest and investigation. Orderly room trial proceedings have therefore been initiated against the seven police personnel listed.”

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, assured the public that the disciplinary process would be conducted thoroughly and transparently, in line with NPF regulations, and that the outcome of the trial would be made public.

The command further reiterated its resolve to rid the Force of unprofessional elements and urged the public to continue reporting acts of misconduct by police personnel
