The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Ogugu State Constituency in Kogi State, Michael Idoko, has rejected the ₦5 million campaign signage fee imposed on State House of Assembly candidates by the Kogi State Government ahead of the 2027 elections.
Idoko described the levy as anti-democratic and anti-people, arguing that such a charge could make political participation increasingly dependent on candidates’ financial strength and make it harder for grassroots politicians to compete.
The Kogi State Government approved a wider fee structure for campaign billboards, posters, branded clothing and other promotional materials: ₦150 million for presidential candidates, ₦50 million for senatorial candidates, ₦30 million for House of Representatives candidates and ₦5 million for State House of Assembly candidates.
The charges are applicable ahead of the 2027 general elections and the October 2026 local government elections.
