Voting in the ongoing Osun State governorship election has been largely peaceful and orderly in Ayedade Local Government Area, but large crowds and slow voting processes have been observed in parts of Ede.
At Ward 5, Units 1 to 15 in Ayedade, voters have been conducting themselves peacefully, with the electoral process progressing in an orderly manner.
However, the situation is different in some polling units in Ede, where large crowds have gathered to exercise their franchise, resulting in a slower pace of voting.
At Unit 11, Ward 4, Ede South, as well as Unit 21, Ward 4, Ede South, Alajue 1, and Unit 10, Ward 4, Ede South, large numbers of voters were observed at the polling centres, with reports of limited orderliness.
Despite the large turnout, security agencies have maintained a heavy presence across strategic locations in the state.
Soldiers have mounted roadblocks at key points, while police officers have been deployed to polling booths to provide security and maintain order.
A police helicopter was also observed conducting aerial surveillance as voting continued, adding to the security presence around the electoral environment.
The heavy turnout and slow pace of accreditation and voting in some polling units have raised concerns over the ability of electoral officials to conclude voting by the 2:30 p.m. stipulated closing time.
With many voters still waiting to cast their ballots at some locations, the high volume of voters could make it difficult for the exercise to end at the scheduled time.
The situation remains fluid as voters continue to arrive at polling units across the state, with election officials expected to ensure that all duly accredited voters are allowed to cast their ballots in line with electoral guidelines.
