Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, amid concerns over possible violence and disruption of the democratic process.

Davido made the appeal in a statement posted on X on Tuesday, in which he directly addressed Trump and expressed concern over what he described as “growing” tension ahead of the poll.

According to him, the people of Osun State should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully, without intimidation or fear.

He said: “President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.”

“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he added.

The singer urged the United States and the international community to closely monitor developments before and during the election, while encouraging relevant Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that votes are respected.

“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected,” Davido said.

He stressed that his intervention was aimed at preventing violence and ensuring a credible electoral process, declaring: “We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun governorship election for Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The election is expected to be keenly contested, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, among the major contenders.

Davido’s intervention comes days after he reportedly said he would seek Trump’s attention if anything went wrong during the election, further drawing international attention to the security and credibility concerns surrounding the Osun poll.

Security agencies have also stepped up preparations for the election, with the police and other agencies deploying thousands of personnel across the state as authorities seek to prevent violence and ensure a peaceful exercise.

Davido’s latest appeal has therefore added a prominent international dimension to calls for a peaceful, transparent and credible Osun governorship election.
