Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi is reportedly on a move to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after losing to Eyitayo Jegede in the party’s governorship primary election held in the state.

The Punch reports Ajayi plans to join the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in order to get a chance in the October governorship election contest in the state.

The Deputy Governor who initially left the All Progressive Progressive (APC) for the main opposition party, reportedly held meetings with leaders of the ZLP, as well as the National Leader of the party, who is also a former governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, to work out the details.

“Ajayi has settled for the ZLP to run against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the PDP’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede,” a close associate of the deputy governor, said on condition of anonymity, on Wednesday.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Mr Tope Okeowo, said he was not aware of the development.

This is coming week after Ajayi conceded defeat to the PDP governorship candidate, stating that he contested against many forces.

“The people have spoken, and we accept the outcome in good faith, knowing fully well that it was a race against different forces,” the Deputy Governor said in a statement by his media aide, Allen Sowore

“We wish the good people of Ondo State and the winner the best as we March on. For us, life goes on.”
