Nigerian Born, Kaycee Madu Becomes First Black Man To Be Appointed Justice Minister In Canada

Kaycee Madu of Nigerian descent, has been appointed as a Minister of Justice in Canada.

Madu who was elevated to the new position as Minister of Justice from Municipal Affairs in a cabinet shuffle by Jason Kenney, Canada Premier, took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce his new appointment.

“Thank you, everyone, for all the well wishes. I am beyond humbled to accept my new role as Minister of Justice and Solicitor General – where I will pursue fairness, equality, and justice for all with every ounce of strength I have,” Madu tweeted.

The Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) congratulated Madu for his new role in Canada, noting that he is the first Black Man to occupy either Provincial or Federal Justice positions of the Justice Minister, Attorney General or Solicitor General in the country.

“Congratulations to a Nigerian born Kaycee Madu @KayceeMaduYEG who becomes Canada’s Minister Of Justice,” NIDCOM tweeted.

“Madu is the first Black Man to occupy either Provincial or Federal Justice positions of the Justice Minister, Attorney General or Solicitor General.

“Born and raised in Nigeria, Madu graduated from the University of Lagos with a law degree in 2001 before his family moved to Canada in 2005.

“Madu, who has practised law in both Nigeria and Alberta, was first elected as an MLA in the April 2019 general election. #ProudlyNigerian.

“Kaycee Madu is a Canadian politician who was elected in the 2019 Alberta general election to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Edmonton-South West.”
