The Nigerian Army has established Special Forces units to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and other security challenges across the country, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has said.

Speaking at the Combined Second and Third Quarters COAS Conference opening ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday.

Lagbaja said the Special Forces units would be equipped with sophisticated weapons and equipment to enable them to effectively carry out their operations.

He said the Army would also continue to procure more sophisticated weapons and equipment to boost its operational capabilities.

Lagbaja noted that the Army would not leave any zone unprotected and that attention would be focused on banditry, kidnapping, and other sundry crimes in the North West; insurgency and terrorism in the North East; farmers-herders clashes and kidnapping in the North Central and the insurrection in the South East.

He urged field commanders to ensure the maintenance of the new weapons and equipment to prolong their life span and enable the nation to optimize its investment.

Lagbaja also called on the public to support the Army in its efforts to rid the country of insecurity.
