Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule expressed his fear over the increase of coronavirus cases in the federal capital territory FCT.

Speaking on a TV programme on Nigerian Television Authority NTA on Friday, Sule said the number of COVID-19 cases in Abuja is giving him sleepless night, given the proximity of Karu local government area of the state to Nigeria’s capital city.

The governor stated: “As a matter of fact, it doesn’t excite me everyday I hear there are increasing cases of COVID-19 in FCT because 80% of the lower class working in Abuja in the hospitals, clinics or hotels lives in Nasarawa state.

“So we are getting ready more than states that even have index cases, the reason being that one of the most densely populated area we have in Nasarawa state is Karu and that is the reason while we decided to have a lock down in Karu.

“Majority of the people here have one thing or the other to do in Abuja. A lot of them do travel out of the country, so we took some steps like so many other states. We decided to lock down Karu. We went ahead to restrict movement to the state capital and other major areas in Nasarawa state. We decided to also close down the markets, churches and mosques.”

According to records made available by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC, “as at 10:20 pm 16th April, there are 442 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 152 have been discharged with 13 deaths.
