The Air Component of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) launched a series of strikes, in a heavy blow on attack to criminal activities on Saturday, 5.

The operation, which took place approximately 4 Nautical Miles South-East of Bille, targeted illicit crude oil tapping from a pipeline, resulting in the complete destruction of three boats engaged in the unlawful activity.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, confirmed the successful operations and emphasized the determination to continue tackling economic saboteurs head-on.

He said, “Operating west of Bonny Island and South of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, the aircraft crew also identified an active illegal refining site during their mission. Located about 4 miles South-east of Idama in Rivers State, the site was found to be housing tanks and reservoirs filled with suspected illegally refined products. Prompt action was taken, and the site was attacked and neutralized.

“The sustained air strikes are part of a determined effort by the Nigerian Air Force to clamp down on economic sabotage and criminality in the country. Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, has issued strict directives to all air component commanders across the nation to join forces with other security agencies and intensify their operations against criminal elements.

Addressing the issue, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar stated, “The days of treating criminal elements in our country with kids’ gloves are over. We must continue on this trajectory until we bring all of them to their knees.”

“The air strikes represent a major blow to oil thieves and their accomplices in the Niger Delta Region, sending a clear message that their illicit activities will no longer be tolerated. The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to preserving national resources and safeguarding the nation’s economic interests.

“As the situation unfolds, the nation watches with anticipation, hoping for a safer and more secure future in the region.”
