The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to disregard allegations being levelled against former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Senator Abdulazeez Yari, describing the claims as a deliberate campaign aimed at undermining one of the President’s loyal political allies.

The appeal was made in a statement issued on Saturday by the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

According to the Islamic human rights advocacy group, recent allegations against the senator were false, malicious and designed to weaken his influence within the political circle of the President.

MURIC described Yari as a respected lawmaker and a strong supporter of President Tinubu, particularly in fostering relationships between the President and key stakeholders across different parts of the country.

“We have been constrained to break our silence on the series of allegations being levelled against Senator Abdulazeez Yari in recent times,” Akintola said.

“We make bold to say that Senator Yari is a highly respected lawmaker in Nigeria and one of the greatest promoters of the interests of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This fact will be willingly endorsed by many Islamic scholars, particularly in the South-West and across the North.”

The group further claimed that Yari had committed significant personal resources towards initiatives aimed at strengthening support for the President and his administration.

It argued that such efforts may have made the senator a target of political opponents seeking to diminish his influence.

“It is therefore natural for certain elements who are keen on power play to feel uncomfortable. The intention of those throwing mud at the senator’s white robe is to smear his image,” the statement said.

MURIC maintained that the allegations lacked merit and should not be taken seriously by the Presidency.

“We confidently declare the allegations against him as false, malicious and baseless. It is a vicious campaign of calumny designed either to diminish his influence or totally eliminate President Tinubu’s most loyal and dedicated supporter,” Akintola stated.

The organisation warned that attempts to discredit Yari were part of a broader effort to isolate the President from trusted allies and urged Tinubu not to be swayed by what it described as politically motivated accusations.

“The intention of the agents provocateur is to strip President Tinubu of all truly loyal allies. We therefore urge Mr President to ignore their antics,” the statement added.

Senator Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and influential figure within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), remains one of the prominent political leaders from the North-West region
