The family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The victims were reportedly kidnapped by armed men in the early hours of Wednesday while Mrs John-Paul was taking her children to school.

A statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, disclosed that the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026.

According to the statement, the gunmen intercepted the 43-year-old and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, before whisking them away to an unknown destination.

The development has heightened concerns over security in the area, with family members expressing shock and anguish over the incident.

Mrs John-Paul was said to have previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily leaving service last year.

She had reportedly relocated to Ibadan with her children and was preparing to join her husband in the United States.

The family stated that security agencies were immediately alerted after the abduction and had since launched investigations aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending those responsible.

While appealing for the safe return of the abductees, the family urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing rescue efforts.

They also called on Nigerians to support the family with prayers and encouraged anyone with useful information to share it with security agencies through appropriate channels.

The family assured the public of its continued cooperation with law enforcement authorities and promised to provide updates as events unfold.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, said he could not immediately confirm the incident.
