Kano Rerun: INEC Suspends Elections in Kunchi/Tsanyawa Over Alleged Disruption, Irregularities

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the suspension of ongoing rerun election in Kunchi/Tsanyawa state constituency of Kano state.

INEC announced the suspension via its verified X handle on Saturday in a statement signed by national commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter education committee, Sam Olumekun.

According to INEC, the decision to suspend the election follows the invasion, vandalization and destruction of electoral materials in the 10 polling units by suspected thugs.

”The decision of the commission aligns with the provisions of section 24 (3) of the electoral act 2022. Further necessary measures of the affected constituencies will be announced after the commission’s meeting on Monday.

” INEC invites security agencies to investigate the incident while the commission commit to thoroughly interrogating any breaches involving its officials”.
