Members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in company of Hon. Dennis Idahosa, lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency, occupied major streets in Benin City to protest the killing of University of Benin (UNIBEN) undergraduate, Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, who was raped by unknown men and eventually died in the state.

Marching across major streets of Benin with placards of various inscriptions on Thursday, NANS president, Danielson Akpan called for justice for late Uwa and demanded that death sentence be pronounced for sex offenders.

On his part, Hon. Idahosa who also joined the students in the solidarity walk, said the evil cannot remain in the country because “we are people of great values”.

He vowed that he would move a motion to support capital punishment at the floor of the house.

Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 22-year-old microbiology student of UNIBEN died after being brutally assaulted and raped by unknown men in a church in Benin.

Johnson Kokumo, the new Commissioner of Police in the state, upon visiting the deceased family to pay condolence on Wednesday, promised that efforts would not be spared in ensuring that the culprits involved in the circumstances that led to Uwaila’s death are apprehended and made to face the law.
