A 2012 United States Republican presidential candidate, Herman Cain has passed on after month of battle with coronavirus disease.

The death of the 74-year-old US business executive was announced on his website and social media accounts on Thursday.

“Herman Cain — our boss, our friend, like a father to so many of us — has passed away,” the editor of his website wrote.

“Although he was basically pretty healthy in recent years, he was still in a high-risk group because of his history with cancer.”

Cain had tested positive for the virus disease on June 29 after attending a Tulsa, Oklahoma, political rally for President Donald Trump, an event where many attendees crowded close together without wearing face masks, Aljazeera reports.

He was admitted to an Atlanta-area hospital on July 1.

According to Newsmax, Cain died in an Atlanta-area hospital, where he was admitted.
