The pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom following efforts by security agencies.

The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X account.

“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” Onanuga wrote.

While confirming the successful rescue, the Presidency did not disclose details of the operation or the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release.

As of the time of filing this report, it remained unclear whether any ransom was paid or whether the victims were rescued during a security operation. Authorities have yet to provide further information on the incident.

The abduction had sparked widespread concern, with renewed calls for enhanced security around schools and stronger measures to protect students, teachers and other vulnerable groups from criminal attacks.

Security agencies are expected to provide additional details on the operation in due course
