Insecurity: COAS Lagbaja Unveils Leadership Philosophy, Flags-off 2023 Conference

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, has said his leadership philosophy is to upscale the security tactic for tackling insecurity challenges in Nigeria.

The Army Chief disclosed this during his opening speech at the The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Combined Second and Third Quarters Conference 2023 in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The Conference, The Meridian Spy gathered that is designed to create a favourable platform to review conduct of Nigerian Army operations, training activities and other relevant key issues in the Second and Third Quarters of Year.

Gen. Lagbaja said his philosophy is to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly effective force to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities in a joint environment.

He said the Nigerian Army has achieved some successes in its fight against insecurity, but there is still more work to be done.

“We have achieved a tremendous outcome for the operation Delta Safe,” he said. “Although we may not have achieved the level of success we ought to have achieved in the illegal oil bunkering activities, we have seen tremendous achievement in the increments in the daily crude oil production.”

Gen. Lagbaja also said the Nigerian Army has established special forces units to tackle various criminal elements across the country.

“These forces will continue to set the pace through their intelligence gathering and the use of special equipment

He charges the field commadants to ensure safety of these equipment to prolong their life span to optimize it’ investment.

He said to aligned with Mr. President’s Agenda, the Army and other security agencies to tackle all manner of security challenges we must enforce this agenda achieve  desire goal.

“As we continue to procure sophisticated weapons and deploy them to various theaters, I charge the field commanders to ensure the safety of these equipment to prolong their lifespan and optimize our investment”, he said.

Lagbaja said the Nigerian Army is committed to working with other security agencies to tackle all forms of security challenges in the country.

“Our goal is to establish stability in the northeast region, allowing people to resume their daily activities without fear,” he said.

He also said the Nigerian Army will not rest on its laurels, but will continue to work hard to achieve its objectives.

“The nation is vast and we must go beyond our past practices, we must be innovative and proactive in our approach to security.”
